This “Design of the Week” features Trand, Inc.!
Our super-sized Design of the Week is Trand, Inc., a family-owned crane company out of Pratt, Kansas.
Established as a trucking company in May 1990 by Terry and Sandra Arnett, Trand, Inc. has been involved in several large construction projects, with customers like wind farms, millwrights, gas plants, oil producers, and more.
“We are a small, family-owned business,” says Andrea Arnett, Vice President of Operations, Terry serves as President and manager, and Sandra works as an accountant. When they founded the company, they named it after their daughters Tressa and Andrea. “and our employees are an extension of our family,” Andrea adds.
Trand has evolved over the years from a trucking company to a crane company, adding a fleet of impressive and innovative cranes to their company.
“Trand, Inc. was the first company in the US to have two 900-ton Liebherr LTM1750-9.1s,” boasts a proud Andrea. “And we are the only company in the US that owns the Liebherr LG1750, which is the crane featured in the artwork. This crane is a mobile lattice boom crane.”
All of the Trand, Inc. cranes share a common trait; each is branded with a bear.
The bear theme started as a reference to Andrea’s son, Thirsten, who was born premature and nicknamed “Little Bear” by the nurses in his NICU. As the first grandchild in the family, the company rallied behind the bear energy.
“When Terry and Sandra purchased the next crane,” tells Andrea, “they put ‘Baby Bear’ on the side of it. The bear theme took hold then. When a new crane is purchased, a little bear with each of the grandchild’s names is added to the side of the crane as well.”
At this point, the Trand, Inc sleuth of bears includes the 30-ton Baby Bear, a 350-ton Mama Bear, a 550-ton Grizzly Bear, two 900-ton LTMs named ‘Kodiak I’ and ‘Kodiak II.’ and the big, 900-ton LG1750 ‘Brutus the Bad Ass Crane.’
“The Kodiak is the biggest bear there is,” explains Andrea, “so when we needed a larger bear, we had to come up with a new idea. Sandra came up with the idea for ‘Brutus the Bad Ass Crane.”
Brutus was selected as the badass bear for their badass Excel shirt design. In addition to an illustration of their crane in action, Trand, Inc. wanted to add American flair to the tee. “I asked them to add the US Flag to the design to show Trand’s support for our country,” says Andrea. “Terry is very strong on buying American made products whenever possible, and supporting our country,” she adds.
“We were very impressed with the artwork [Excel] has done for others,” explains Andrea, “and even more impressed with the design created for us. It is very original and represents our company well. We are excited to get the shirts and start handing them out to our customers and employees.”
