Our Design of the Week is Lift Foils, a hydrofoil company based out of Puerto Rico. Lift Foils combine the modern technology of electric vehicles with a decade of hydrofoil design and expertise to create their elegant and sophisticated ride.

The Lift electric hydrofoil, or eFoil, lets riders experience flight over almost any body of water at up to 25 mph, no waves required. The eFoil takes advantage of modern technology and expert craftsmanship to create a state-of-the-art watersports technology experience combining the best of surfing, hydrofoiling, and electric propulsion in an easy-to-use, unbelievably fun package.

“We have been designing and making foils for the water sports industry for 10 years,” says Alan Vaughan of Lift Foils. “We started making the eFoil prototypes in 2016 and came to market with the world’s first electrically powered foil surfboard in March 2018.”

“Hydrofoils work the same way a plane’s wings do,” explains Vaughan. “We test different shapes on our hydro-dynamic simulator computer programs and then give it the real-world test in our backyard; the ocean!”

When looking to design a shirt for Lift Foils, Vaughan didn’t want a cliched surfing shirt. “I wanted something different,” he says, “and didn’t want it to be too ‘tiki and hibiscus’ looking.” With that input, the Excel art department went into action. “I gave them some initial ideas, and they took it from there,” explains Vaughan. “Only one revision from the initial concept to print-ready design. You guys have been great!”

The final shirt features the Lift Foils in action, with a beautiful sunset over the ocean. The design captures the excitement of what would be an exhilarating experience for all riders – from beginners to advanced.
