This “Design of the Week” features “Pumpkin Spice Banking”!
Seasons are changing, and our Design of the Week is this festive “Pumpkin Spice Banking” illustration for Standard Bank. With offices in Pennsylvania and Maryland, Standard Bank is a community bank that offers an array of personal and business banking and lending solutions.
“We’re about more than numbers,” says Vanessa Saxton, Standard Bank AVP, Director of Marketing and Communications, “we’re about relationships with our customers and being a resource in our hometowns. We find this philosophy and way of doing business really sets us apart from the large banks and other larger financial institutions.”
A community bank derives funds and lends to the communities in which it operates – ultimately helping to grow the local economy. “Community banking takes the customer experience to another level with added benefits like one-on-one customer service, products that focus on the customer, and active initiatives to promote community growth,” says Saxton.
Standard Bank’s philosophy and community focus allow them to do things the bigger banks can’t, like launching a fun “Pumpkin Spice Banking” campaign, for instance. Their coffee metaphor cleverly draws parallels between the “dizzying array of options at the local coffee shop” and how a community bank like Standard Bank can meet the variety of financial needs of their customers.
“As a community bank in Southwestern PA and Maryland, our customers know and love Pumpkin Spice Coffee (and just Fall in general),” Saxton explains. “Just as the Pumpkin Spice experience has become grander over the years, so too has the banking experience. More options, better convenience, same “feel good” experience.”
Saxton and her team turned to Excel to help them design a shirt that fit their “Pumpkin Spice Banking” concept. “We wanted a shirt that brought the two together in a creative, fun way. Banking is serious enough.”
“While we knew we wanted a bright, Fall theme,” she explains, “we wanted an independent designer to give us something out-of-the-box. So we provided [the Excel] design team with our blog article on the topic, a quick image of something we liked… and they created something better than we even imagined.”
Excel artist Eric Poole crafted the design, incorporating seasonal colors – maroon, orange, cream, and dark brown – as well as autumn standards like a pumpkin, some leaves, wheat, and wispy curls. And prominently featured, of course, is a familiar-looking disposable coffee cup with the pun “Banking You’ll [HEART]… a Latte” written on the sleeve.
Saxton and her team are using these shirts for themselves and other employees, and they are using some for a special online giveaway.
“We love our Facebook community, so to put a little “spice” into their banking in October, we’re giving away 50 shirts!” she reveals.
Details can be found on their Facebook page starting October 1st and running through October 15th.
