This “Design of the Week” features J&G Express!
Founded by Gary Cox in 2005, J&G Express began as a family-owned trucking company in the Southwest Virginia and Eastern Tennessee areas. It has expanded to include dump trucks service, now regularly hauling asphalt for a local asphalt company.
Illustrated by Excel illustrator Alan Hood, the stylistic design features J&G’s Freightliner truck Gary himself drives.
“It has a lot of custom stuff. It has a drop visor, and I put a larger bumper on it, I added a lot of lights,” says Cox. The shirt also features the logo that appears on all their trucks, and the fun and exaggerated appearance of the truck’s 14 1/2 inch drop visor.
Gary finally ordered his shirts after a fair amount of peer pressure. “Basically wanted some shirts for the guys I work with, they were aggravating me about it,” Cox laughs. “My wife and my children wanted some too.”
And while many companies use their shirts for promotional purposes, Gary was also looking for a shirt that he uses to stoke the flames of friendly competition.
“All my buddies got shirts and I wanted to out-do them. That’s why I called you guys,” laughs Cox. “And y’ all exceeded that. It was way above my expectations.”
As Gary and his wife had considered getting shirts for their company, they kept up with Excel on social media. “I’ve liked your page on Facebook for a long time and watched the pictures of the shirts.”
But being a small family-run company, they were hesitant to invest the money into their promotional shirts. That instantly changed when they saw the design proof, “As soon as we saw the artwork she’s like, “Yeah we’re getting them. No questions, we’re getting them,” Gary laughs.
Now Gary is looking into expanding his t-shirt collection to include safety shirts, hoodies and possibly even a new design featuring other trucks in his fleet.
