This “Design of the Week” features Fire Buff NY!
Our Design of the Week is this unique design for Fire Buff NY, an organization of fire enthusiasts who use social media to promote everything fire-related.
“A ‘Fire Buff’ is any person who is interested in fire fighting or emergency services activities,” says Donald P. Cialone Jr, a volunteer firefighter with Doyle Hose Company No. 2 in Cheektowaga, NY as well as founder and creator of Fire Buff NY. “They can be a firefighter themselves or a civilian,” he adds.
FBNY is very active in their community and on social media, reporting on and supporting the departments.
“We post real-time incident posts, fire photography, and videos, post Company Profiles, Trivia Tuesdays for prizes, Throw Back Thursday history photos, articles, and conduct training events,” Cialone explains. “We also take fire station photos, have a Digital Patch Board, write feature articles, and so much more.”
The prominent feature of this shirt design is Cialone’s dog ‘Sam,’ a one-eyed rescue dog. “He is a true fire dog,” tells Cialone. “Very early on, when I got Sam, he would hear my pager go off and go nuts. So I started bringing him to the calls with me because I responded directly to the scene. Sam loves the excitement of it all.”
“Although the concept is mine,” explains Cialone, “I have to give credit to [Excel VP] Steve McCarroll for listening to my thoughts on the design and passing it off to his graphic artist who came up with an amazing logo. It captures Sam perfectly and gives him the chance to appear like the fire dog he is.”
“I think Excel is a first-class organization,” adds Cialone.
“From start to finish, Steve McCarroll was in constant communication with me, making sure every part of the process was going smooth. You don’t see that with too many businesses these days. He definitely prides himself on customer service!”
The shirts (and more items) are available for purchase on the Fire Buff NY online store, with $5 from each “Sam logo shirt” sale donated to the Erie County SPCA.
