This “Design of the Week” features Dann Ocean Towing!
Our Design of the Week is Dann Ocean Towing, a leading provider of marine towage, serving the US East Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, and International Marine Markets.
“We are a fifth-generation ocean-going tugboat company,” says Stephen Dann, current Dann Ocean Towing President. “We are involved in many aspects of the tugboat business, including transportation of petroleum and bulk commodities and support of heavy civil and infrastructure projects to include dredging and marine construction.”
Much like multiple generations of towheads in the Dann dynasty, there have been several generations of Dann Ocean Towing t-shirts with Excel. “This is our 5th or 6th shirt with Excel,” Dann says. “We kind of do the same thing over and over just using a different boat,” he laughs.
This latest design features one of their newest acquisitions.
“We just purchased the tug and refurbished her in Louisiana,” tells Dann. “We use the “head-on” or bow shots because they translate better to the t-shirt medium. If you try to do the side profile of the tug, it comes out so small that you lose a lot of detail.”
This shirt also includes a rope frame, and while past shirts include backgrounds like the New York City skyline, this illustration allows the tug to take center stage.
When asked, Dann’s favorite detail of this design is so subtle it’s subliminal. “My favorite part is the hidden advertising Excel incorporated without even knowing it,” he says. “I think it will inspire other customers to really get creative with their designs and unlock the possibilities…”
“Excel is great to work with,” praises Dann. “I like changing things up and coming up with new designs. I think this is one of my favorites.”
He adds, “I was inspired by the character of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever and his commitment to his dream of being a great dancer. I just want to dance.”
